| Spring at Bartlett Public Library |
I've been at Bartlett Public Library for almost three months. There are still a few things I need to learn.
1. Do we ILL books that we own? For all of you non-librarians out there, ILL stands for interlibrary loan. These are materials that we request for our patrons that come from other libraries. I think that we shouldn't ILL something if we own it, but I have a feeling that I'm wrong. I need to find out for sure.
2. How do I get those darn express computers to not shut down whenever they feel like it?
3. Are there reviews out there somewhere about computer books? In July, I will start buying computer books, and I can't find reviews anywhere.
4. Is there a foolproof way to teach patrons about ebooks and how to use Overdrive?
5. How do I write a better book review? We've got a book recommendation blog, and I need to improve my review writing skills.

I've found that on Amazon.com you'll find lots of reveiws for books - especially done by every day people. Although you can't tell if it's an authors friend giving a glowing review but I guess it's a chance you take when you use a public site. Good luck with your other questions.
ReplyDeleteComing a little late to the party via TTW, but to answer #1, I *bet* the answer would be yes... sorta. :D
ReplyDeleteSometimes your library will need an additional copy of a book you own but not necessarily want to buy it (like for book discussion groups); but with really new, popular books you probably wouldn't because chances are that other libraries won't send you their copy anyway... but then there's the whole "open hold" system (I think MLS libraries that use SWAN have it) where its like the book belongs to the system and travels to the next person on the list when it's returned...
Clear as mud, right? :D
Looking forward to following you here!
